Uniform and Equipment
PRIMARY UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
The children at Mayfield should take pride in their uniform and always look smart, including whilst walking to and from school. This gives the children a sense of belonging to our Mayfield community. Parents and carers who accept a place at Mayfield School agree that their children will follow the school uniform requirements.
Year R, Year 1 and Year 2
From September 2026, the children in Year R To Year 2 will be required to wear a plain white polo shirt with a black V-neck jumper with the school logo or a black cardigan with the school logo. Pupils will be able to purchase black trousers, shorts, skirts and blue summer dresses from any supplier.
- Blazers will be optional for these year groups. No Tie is required.
- Black or white socks or tights.
- Black school shoes only. Sports trainers are NOT acceptable.
Year 3 to Year 6
From September 2026, Year 3 to Year 6 will be required to wear a white shirt, school tie in your child’s house colour and black blazer with Mayfield logo. Black trousers, shorts, skirts and blue summer dresses from any supplier.
- Black or white socks or tights.
- Black school shoes only. Sports trainers are ONLY acceptable on year group PE days.
Year R to Year 6 PE Kit
All children will be expected to wear PE Kit on their year group PE Days. Pupils will be expected to wear a House Team short-sleeved PE Top with Logo and plain black PE shorts/jogging bottoms. Trainers/plimsolls may be worn on these days.
Please note, ONLY the following jumpers will be acceptable:
- Long-sleeved Mayfield PE Tops with logo
- School Jumper/Cardigan with Logo
- Plain black Hoodie (NO LOGOS)
Please be aware that you will receive contact from the school if your child arrives in incorrect PE Kit.
JEWELLERY
Jewellery is limited to one pair of studs or sleepers (diameter no bigger than a little finger) in total. Only one earring is to be worn in the lobe of each ear.
NO OTHER JEWELLERY IS PERMITTED.
SECONDARY UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
Our standard, compulsory branded uniform comprises:
- Mayfield branded blazer
- Mayfield branded tie (House coloured)
- Mayfield branded PE top for PE
- Mayfield branded black drop pleat skirt or straight skirt
- Mayfield branded black tailored summer shorts
Our standard, compulsory non-branded uniform comprises:
- Black trousers (not leggings/jeans/jeggings/tracksuit bottoms)
- White short or long-sleeved shirt
- Black socks (ankle length, no knee-high length)
- Black or skin coloured tights
- Black, polishable shoes with no visible logos or metal tags
- Black shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms for PE
- Trainers or plimsoles suitable for outdoor and indoor PE
Optional branded items, which if chosen to be worn, MUST be purchased from our pre-loved shop or one of our suppliers are:
- Mayfield branded black V-neck jumper
- Mayfield branded PE tracksuit top for outdoor lessons (additional blue or black layers can be worn under PE tops in cold weather)
In addition, please note the following basic uniform standards:
Hair accessories or headwear of a religious nature must be black or Mayfield blue;
Extreme haircuts are forbidden - hair length should be at least a grade 2. This includes (but is not limited to) all over hairstyles, undercuts, tramlines and shapes being cut into hair;
Hair must be of a natural colour;
Make-up should be subtle and nail varnish of a pale or natural colour

False nails and nose piercings are NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Coats are not allowed to be worn in and around the school building.
SCHOOL UNIFORM SUPPLIERS
Mayfield has a well-stocked pre-loved uniform shop on site which we encourage our school community to use. We operate on a “swap” or “donation” basis. If you would like to know more about this, please email general@mayfield.portsmouth.sch.uk for further information regarding opening times and ways to donate any pre-loved uniform.
Mayfield School have their own pre-loved uniform shop, these items have been donated to the shop from Mayfield children that have outgrown their clothing. The shop is accessible from main reception Mondays and Wednesdays, between 3:30 - 4:30PM
