Information for Parents and Carers: Roadworks on Mayfield Road

We would like to make parents and carers aware of planned gas main replacement works taking place on Mayfield Road from 23 July 2026 until approximately 14 November 2026. The works are being carried out by SGN and will involve a series of road closures and temporary traffic management measures.

What parents need to know


•      The works are scheduled to start during the summer holidays but will continue into the autumn term.

•       Various sections of Mayfield Road will be closed in phases, with signed diversion routes in place.

•       Access to properties within affected areas will be maintained, and pedestrian and cycle access will remain available.

•      Temporary traffic lights will be used during some phases of the work, particularly later in the programme.

 

Key dates
•      23 July- early August: Road closure between Copnor Road and Kensington Road.

•      6 August- early September: Road closure at Kensington Road junction.

•      3 September- late September: Four-way closure at Randolph Road/Mayfield Road junction.

•      1 October- early November: Road closure at London Road junction.

•      5 November-mid-November: Two-way traffic lights on London Road and closure on Mayfield Road.

 

Impact on travel to and from school

Families should allow additional time for journeys when the new school year begins in September, as traffic congestion and diversions are likely around the school area. We recommend checking your usual route before travelling and considering alternative routes where possible.

The school will continue to monitor the situation and will share any further information that may affect drop-off, pick-up, school transport or access to the site.

Maintained schools can only have 5 inset days, multi-academy trusts have the flexibility to set a different number of inset days.

In line with other local multi-academy trusts, Salterns Trust places great value on the professional development of its staff, as we know that ensuring children have high quality interactions every day with adults in school is key to their development and success in their learning.  

The decision to have 7 inset days has been carefully chosen to allow sufficient time for staff development (both within school and through opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the Trust) and ensure a positive impact on learning for the 188 days that children attend school.
