Student Leadership

At Mayfield School, student leadership is at the heart of our community, empowering every pupil to have a voice, take responsibility, and make a meaningful difference. Our leadership structure is designed to be inclusive, dynamic, and representative—ensuring that students from across the school contribute to shaping their environment.

At the foundation of our leadership system is the Student Council, where each secondary tutor group is represented by two elected students. This ensures that every year group and form has a voice, allowing ideas, concerns, and suggestions to be shared and acted upon. The council meets regularly to discuss ways of improving school life, from day-to-day student experiences to wider initiatives and events.

Alongside this, we have dedicated Subject Captains, who are passionate about specific areas of learning. They work closely with departments to promote their subjects, organise activities, and inspire younger students to engage more deeply with their studies. Their role highlights academic leadership and helps build a strong culture of enthusiasm for learning.

Our Prefects play a vital role in maintaining the values and spirit of the school. They act as role models, support school events, and help younger students feel welcomed and supported. From this group, a team of Deputy Head Prefects is selected, demonstrating exceptional commitment and leadership.

At the top of the student leadership structure are the Head Prefects, who represent the student body at the highest level. They work closely with staff, lead whole-school initiatives, and act as ambassadors for Mayfield both within and beyond the school community. Their leadership sets the tone for collaboration, respect, and ambition across all year groups.

Beyond these formal roles, Mayfield prides itself on its wide range of student-led clubs and initiatives. These clubs allow students to pursue their interests, develop new skills, and take ownership of activities that enrich school life. Whether it's launching a new club, leading a project, or organising events, students are encouraged to step forward and lead.

At Mayfield in Primary, each class has a dedicated school councillor who represents the students' voices. These councillors regularly meet with Mrs. Moore to discuss ideas and initiatives that can enhance our school community. This system ensures that every child has the opportunity to contribute to the school's development and be part of meaningful decision-making.
