Believe. Achieve. Succeed.

At Mayfield, our mission is simple: to ensure every pupil leaves Year 11 confident, capable, and ready to take their next steps—whether that’s in further education, an apprenticeship, or training aligned with their passions and ambitions.
Our comprehensive Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme, delivered in partnership with EBP South, provides pupils with impartial support from Year 7 right through to the end of Year 11—and beyond, where needed. Some pupils even receive additional help over the summer after results are released, ensuring they feel secure and supported in their choices.
Year-by-Year Careers Journey
Year 7 – Discovering Possibilities
Pupils begin exploring the world of work and understanding how their interests and subjects link to future careers. They’re introduced to basic employability skills through PSHE and tutor-led discussions.
Year 8 – Building Awareness
The focus turns to self-awareness and exploring different career sectors. Pupils begin to reflect on their strengths, values, and how these might influence their future choices.
Year 9 – Making Informed Choices
This is a key decision-making year. Pupils take part in an Options Workshop to help them choose GCSE subjects wisely, supported by career guidance and tutor discussions. They also take part in a ‘Speed Networking’ event, meeting a range of local employers and professionals to learn first-hand about various roles and industries.
Year 10 – Developing Employability
Pupils take part in a Careers Day, focused on workplace expectations, CV writing, and interview preparation. They also experience a 1:1 mock interview with feedback from real employers, helping them build confidence and communication skills. Some pupils are offered extended work placements or college link courses to develop practical experience.
Year 11 – Taking the Next Step
As pupils prepare to move on, they receive targeted support with college and apprenticeship applications, personal statements, and interviews. They also attend assemblies and events led by local colleges, employers, and the Armed Forces. For those still finalising their plans after exams, additional guidance is available throughout the summer break.
Partnerships and Opportunities
We’re proud to work closely with a range of partners who bring the world of work to life for our pupils:
Local Colleges and Employers – deliver assemblies, workshops, and careers fairs for all year groups.
University of Portsmouth – offers a variety of inspiring events and experiences to raise aspirations.
Southern Universities Network (SUN) – provides focused activities for pupils in Years 9–11.
BAE Systems and Airbus – exciting new partnerships offering insight into major local industries.
Careers in the Curriculum
Career-related skills are embedded throughout our curriculum. From teamwork and leadership to problem-solving and presentation skills, lessons across all subjects help pupils develop the attributes employers value. Careers education is also woven into PSHE and CPR lessons, as well as our dedicated “Careers Focus Weeks” each term, where tutors and pupils explore different pathways and destinations together.
Meet Our Enterprise Advisor
Our Enterprise Advisor, Anna Smith, is a successful recruitment business owner who is passionate about helping our pupils develop the confidence, professionalism, and adaptability needed for the ever-changing world of work.
