Values and Ethos

As an all-through school, we pride ourselves on all phases (children working in primary and secondary) being united under a shared set of values and principles whilst recognising that leaders in these phases require the autonomy to drive phase-appropriate improvements.

We also pride ourselves on the positive relationships we foster, knowing every young person as an individual and challenging each of them to have the highest possible aspirations.

We are ambitious for every child who attends Mayfield to experience an education which enables children to Believe. Achieve. Succeed.

We achieve this all through our shared set of values - Ambition. Inclusion. Respect.

Our vision is to create a family ethos that raises aspirations and makes a real difference to the life chances of our young people.

All stakeholders, together, will create an environment of respect and inclusion where all young people are valued, supported, inspired and future-ready.

Believe. Achieve. Succeed.

Believe.

To believe in ourselves, our own abilities, in other people and the world around us.

Achieve.

To achieve our full potential by successfully reaching our goals through effort, skill and confidence.

Succeed.

To succeed in becoming the person we want to be.

Ambition. Inclusion. Respect.

In primary, we use the value heroes to help us ensure that we remember these values.

Our value heroes are;

Ambitious Adley, Inclusive Indy and Respectful Rio.

Living and Breathing Our Values – A.I.R.

At the start of the 2024–2025 academic year, our entire school community—both primary and secondary—came together for our very first Personal Development Day. This special day was designed to bring everyone together through a wide range of activities, events, and inspirational guest speakers. The focus: to explore, shape, and define the values that will guide us as a school.

Throughout the day, pupils, students, and staff engaged in meaningful discussions and creative sessions, sharing ideas and reflections on what truly matters to us as a community. From these shared experiences, we created a longlist of values that captured our collective vision.

Following careful reflection and discussion, this list was narrowed down to 15 core values. Then, through a whole-school community vote involving all stakeholders, those 15 were honed down to three core values that represent who we are and who we strive to be:

Ambition
Inclusion
Respect

These values have been introduced and embedded through assemblies, where we’ve explored what each one means in everyday school life. In our primary phase, pupils have even voted for the Value Heroes who best embody these principles:

Ambitious Adley
Inclusive Indy
Respectful Rio

It was during one of these assemblies that a student made a wonderful observation: when placed in order, the first letter of each of our values spells A.I.R.

A perfect symbol of how we are now living and breathing our values every day.

Believe.
Achieve.
Succeed.
