Mayfield School attended the Portsmouth school's sports presentation evening on Thursday 22nd June hosted by Portsmouth College. Teams and individuals were nominated for several awards which included:

  • Helena Williams: Sport Leader of the Year:

Helena-helps out at many extra-curricular clubs, organising equipment, leading warm ups, organising teams and officiating games. She comes along to lower year fixtures to help out and is an excellent role model. Is also a sports leader helping with many activities on a city wide level. As a year 9 students she has gone above and beyond for the whole year.

  • Grace Stanley: Outstanding Achievement in School Sport:

Grace regularly attends after school sports activities at school and represents many of the school teams. It is in Netball where Grace particularly performs at an outstanding level. Grace has played centre for the school team this year and provides a superb link from defence to attack. Grace’s quick movements and ability to read the game means she is an asset to the team all over the court. It is not just her ability to play the game that is outstanding, Grace is a fantastic leader, advising and encouraging other members of the team.

  • Yamila Martin Young: Ambassador of the Year

Yamila is a great PE students and role model to others. She actively promotes GCSE PE and attends extra-curricular netball, tennis, rounders and athletics. She takes a lead role in all inter house events. She has recently become a Young sports leader helping out at citywide sporting events.

  • Lauren MaCauley: Extra-Curricular Award

Lauren coach’s gymnastics for Portsmouth schools gymnastic and trampolining club. She does 4 hours a week and up to two 7 hour days in the half term. This complements her active role in school and her dedication as a GCSE PE student.

  • Year 8 Football team: School Sports Team of the Year

Mayfield Year 8 Football team stormed to a 11-0 victory over Kings Richard school to secure the league and cup double which can only be described as a perfect season scoring 31 goals and not conceding a single goal throughout the year.

“This will be hard to repeat next year but the team have now been entered into the Hampshire Cup and we are looking forward to the challenge next season” (Captain Lawrence Cooper). 

  • Evan Harris: Most improved Player of the Year

Evan has made massive strides in his Football performance this season for club and school. He has quickly become a crucial player in a strong team concluding with a MOM performance in the cup final. His strength, vision and decision making brings the best out of others and himself. A true asset to the school. 

A fantastic evening, which was a great occasion to celebrate and appreciate the hard work shown throughout the year by these particular students/teams. We wish all our students the best of luck next year in PE and extra-curricular activities.
